26 weeks of Collectable Unemployment... but what if.?
If I call MARVIN and don't "claim" a couple of weeks, because I received monies from my previous employer (a paycheck owed, plus my accrued personal time stale pay) will that "extend" my weeks on out by two weeks, as opposed to "losing" those two weeks? Does anyone know? I read the brochure, but I'm still confused.

28 near no adjectives, What should I do?
Hi all, Ok I am 28 and I have lost everything from the love of my life span (over a year ago) to my license. No it was not drugs just wrong choices and believing within others. So I am just about 28 next to nothing going for myself. I was thinking military (navy or air-force) but even later I would rather be a officer joining. Now I have no college so that would run 4 years to do (time is short). I made wrong decisions and trusted others when I tried to help beside their company's. Now I have moved back home beside nothing. So any Ideas. Reason why I was thinking military is because what else is for me?I would approaching to do Humanitarian work across seas but I see you have to own at least 2 years of college if you want to get salaried for it. I really don't have anyone to help so...

4' 11...too short to get hold of a situation?
I've never had a real chore before (All the jobs I've have were/are at my school in college)...I own an interview on Friday at a real estate place as a receptionists. The area is really nice (mostly rich people) I can't back but to think negative that I'm not going to obtain the job because I'm too short. I'm 22, I'm short and slim. People tell me that I look close to a kid. Do you think I have a break of getting the job.

4. Which trade bridleway have the most appeal to you?
4. Which career path have the most appeal to you: working your way up through a large corporation or working for yourself? Why?

5 minute interview.?
I just came posterior from an interview at century 21 real estate for a receptionists position. The interview lasted roughly 5 minutes I think. She really did not ask me any real interview question. She just went over my resume and said, so you budge to (school's name) then she said you want to be a psychologist/psychiatrist. I said a Psychologist. she asked what grad school I be looking to go to I said that I don't know yet, I'm still looking and that I be thinking about taking a year off. she asked if I have any questions and I just said I considered necessary to know what the position was for.

When I really meant, what are the duties of the mission. anyway she said it's a receptionist position and she then told me what I would be responsible for. She asked me if I was interested. I said yes.. and said that I have applied at another location, which is where she got my resume from.. She consequently asked how much was I looking the get remunerated. I told her a minimum of 12 dollars. She said that I seem a little shy and I a moment ago smiled because I didn't want her to know I was nervous or speak something stupid. She asked if I was good near computer and I said yes.

She said that was a plus. She asked me again if I had any question I said no. Then she said that's it. and confirmed my phone # and said "I'll let you know. It probably didn't play out exactly like this because Ieft little mechanical things out...at one point there was an awkward silence (when she said I be shy) but as I said it was a "real" interview, like what I be expecting. Anyways...do you think the interview went desperate... Thanks...I just really want this job...

5 year checkable work history for collateral work.?
How does this process work? Is it (A) a case of "I've got zilch to hide check away!" and leave that to company to check up or (B) Do I simply write down all the jobs i've have for the past five years & thats it or (C) Do I have to jump and get a police check or something simular? Please help as you can see I am terribly confused!

51 year infirm womanly working near 71 and 85 year outmoded men that want my hours!?
I recently answered an ad for a guarantee company that stated my job would be "full time, 40 hrs/wk, nights and holidays". At the interview, the boss told me that it would be more approaching 46 hours per week providing that the senior officer didn't want the extra hours. Well, he did...so now I get 36 hours per week. At that time, within were exactly five officers. Less than two months after that, we have seven officers. One have agreed to stay on as emergency on-call (basically no set hours).

One is being threatened with firing, one is 85 years elderly, one is 71 years old, one recently have a heart attack and was off work for over two months...at 51, I am the lone female officer there, subsequent to the youngest, and my work so far has been in need incident or problem. My doctor has ordered me to have surgery contained by three weeks. Even though I will miss less than a week of work, I have this odd feeling that I will not get my 36 hours put money on again after I return from surgery.

I've asked the boss and he said that I would get my 36 hours back, no question asked...but...he gives in to the 71 year hoary fellow who is a sexist and thinks the 85 year old buddy can do a better assignment than I can. He has already told other officers within that he fully intends that the 85 year old officer will be taking over my job and that I can own "maybe 8 hours a week". The only wonderful piece about this job is that I work alone and don't hold to be around these dinosaurs more than ten minutes per day.

Should I hang contained by there and trust the bosses word, get equipped for a sexual harrassment suit (remember, I am the only female working at this facility) or consent to the old farts have their instrument and quit? I love this job and would hate to lose it...I scrounging, this sounds harsh and all, but the 71 and 85 year antiquated fellows don't have too copious working years left I would think (surprised and shocked that they ARE still working). Any thoughts on the thing would be appreciated.

A Career in Hospitality and Catering

If you are searching for a job in food service, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has some good news for you--the outlook for openings is generally good because many food service workers move on to better and higher paying jobs. However, if you want a good career in the field, you can stay in food service and create a decent living with some education and experience in hospitality industries to back you up.

With regards to the division of hospitality you would like, there are programs available at the trade school level, community college level, and university level for you. Here are some of the jobs and programs available to you.Food Prep WorkersMost of these jobs require little education or training, and often these employees learn on the job. Supervised by the chefs and cooks, they prepare ingredients, get equipment for line cooks and chefs, and keep work areas sanitary.

Several positions are in bars, fast food restaurants, and chain restaurants. The pay is generally low, but that often happens of any entry level position. Many food prep workers are still in high school and are either working for college money or preparing to go on to the food service programs in trade schools or community colleges.Jobs for ChefsChefs must be able to cook well, of course, but are also responsible for some day to day kitchen management.

They must be able to direct the prep workers and line cooks, and serve as head cook. In more upscale kitchens, the chef has opportunities to be promoted to sous chef, executive chef, and eventually restaurant management positions if he or she has had the proper education. Generally, a two year program at a community college is expected for chef positions.

As well as restaurant work, jobs for chefs can include specialty grocery jobs, preparation of cookbooks, and even television appearances. Often busy families will employ a trained chef as household cook. Often they can find employment in non-feed service companies, like large corporations that have kitchens. Many have their sights set on promotions and must make sure they have additional training and education to qualify for them.

Wait Staff One of many least favorite positions in the food service industry is the wait staff position. Waiters and waitresses (and hostesses) are often the first line of defense in the restaurant, interacting with hungry people who find themselves of ten a little crabby. They must be cordial and friendly, and make sure the service is prompt, the food is prepared as ordered, and that the guests are happy at every stage of the experience.

However, good wait staff in restaurants, bars, and other food service positions are rewarded with high tips and management promotions. High ticket restaurant work requires extensive training for wait staff, and skilled professionals can make good pay waiting tables. Although there isn't any higher education requirements for wait staff, good communication skills, ability to diffuse negative situations, and snap decision making abilities are highly prized.Catering job is a different kind of food service.

Wait staff make no tips and cooks do not prepare from a menu, but these are generally higher paying jobs (hourly) than regular restaurant work. A lot of the cooks and chefs have had lots of experience as well as the required education, and wait staff have been trained in high quality service. Catering jobs are sometimes on an as-needed basis, so often a worker will be scheduled irregularly and works evenings and weekends--this is mostly when corporations have their parties, meetings, and seminars. Jobs in catering are often highly-prized, according to the catering company.

Lots of restaurants offer catering nowadays, and will offer the opportunities to the very best of their workers.Jobs in Hotels. Lots of the food service jobs in hotels act like restaurants because they often have a restaurant on-site. However, a number of these positions will involve room service, where a worker can make better money hourly and in tipping. Most cooking jobs in hotels require some college education and often the cooks and chefs serve as room service wait staff.

A wider range of work hours are sometimes required of hotel food service workers if the kitchen stays open late for room service orders. However, the kitchens themselves are often larger and better equipped than the standard restaurant kitchen. The food service in a hotel will generally match the hotel quality, so you can judge where one should apply when seeking food industry jobs in hotels. Management positions in the hotel kitchen often requires a bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management, but the pay is higher, status and respect higher, and the choices of positions more flexible.

Specialization in Jobs for Chefs and Cooks. Chefs and cooks may find that their expertise falls into a category, such as pastries or presentation. These chefs will need creativity, nowadays coursework, and on-the-job training to find positions in their specialty fields. However, they will be rewarded with higher pay and status. Chefs and cooks may should also share their expertise with others, and many will get back on the community colleges to teach. These positions are highly-coveted among retired chefs and competition is often stiff.Single purpose unique positions for chefs is kitchen engineer.

These workers attend specialized training at the university level and apply their creativity, mathematical abilities, and extensive knowledge of kitchen operations to lay out these areas and equipment in an efficient manner. Some kitchen engineers work with architects, industrial engineers, etc.The Future for Food Service. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that in 2006 there were 3.1 jobs in food service, and jobs are expected to increase by eleven percent. Because of the flexibility in jobs in hotels, bars, restaurants, and catering, great for both the traditional worker and the student, and offer more than enough room for advancement for all.

If the employee knows he or she will get a benefit from doing excellent work then they will be more likely to perform at a higher level.

Another great tip for the human resources manager is to have a lot of positive reinforcement. If they employees feel they are in a friendly environment, then they will produce better work. Everyone likes to be noticed when they do a good job so catching employees doing their jobs properly is an important part of being a human resources manager. This is also very important in the hotel business because customers can always tell the tone of the staff. If they see happy staff members the customers will be more likely to return to the hotel.

Another aspect to the human resources management tips for hotels is to implement a clear progression plan that employees can use to advance in rank and salary at the hotel. If employees feel they will be stuck in the same job and pay grade throughout their time at the hotel then they will move on to another hotel or business to increase their salaries and duties. If there is a clear advancement program in place at the hotel that they already work in then they will be more likely to stay at the place they already work.

Perhaps the most important thing for a human resources manager in the hotel business to do is to lead through example. If employees see the human resources department taking short cuts and doing poor work then the rest of the staff will reduce their quality of work as well. However, if they see the human resources department working hard and providing the best quality of service that they can then the employees will improve their work as well.

All of these human resources management tips for hotels will provide a basis to use as a springboard to increase the productivity in your hotel. Follow these tips and you will soon see an increase in the mood and service level of your hotel. The human resources position at any hotel is one of the most important jobs in the hotel, so it is very important that it is run professionally and well.

Popular Exotic Holiday Destination in Phuket

Phuket has long been a popular exotic holiday destination with almost all of the world’s 5 star chains having a hotel or resort located there. Places like Pattaya, Sumui and Phuket are now enjoying significant rental yields during the peak season when visitors are willing to pay thousands of dollars per night to accommodate their families in luxury villas. Villa rentals often work out cheaper and are more convenient for families and large groups of people and so are becoming more and more popular, especially amongst European and North American’s as well as Wealthy Asians seeking regular breaks from the stresses of daily life.

Phuket is very controlled in terms of the planning and environment. Fittingly the market is dominated by people who invest into a lifestyle. The villas are built to specifically please foreign visitors with large open terraces that run seamlessly into large living quarters and nearly all villas include a swimming pool and excellent amenities. Despite the development on the island of Phuket, the market is still in its infancy, however is set for a large growth period. The island’s growth is guaranteed as the property is resilient to domestic economy fluctuations because most of the investment is from oversea companies. The developers are all established and proven, with only the most professional and dedicated developers surviving the high end market.

Phuket features white sand beaches, clear seas, jungle and waterfalls and no pollution making it a desirable place to holiday at. Traffic, while on the increase, is still insignificant. Over the last 10 years Phuket’s infrastructure has burgeoned with international hospitals, schools, marinas, golf courses, restaurants, bars and shopping malls, offering everything a tourist could need.

Another major benefit is that 32% of the world’s population resides within 5 hours flying time of Phuket. The International airport has increased not only the number of flights from Asian capitol cities but Australasia and Europe too, making the prospect of relaxing holidays in Phuket more appealing for many people. For Europeans the lure of Phuket is helped by the fact that the Mediterranean is pricing itself out of the market for many people, so a few hours further is Phuket, providing more desirable property at a fraction of the cost of European villas. In addition to these benefits is the health system in Phuket and Thailand, again, a fraction of the cost of Europe, North America and Australasia but providing world class service without any waiting times. This provides peace of mind for all people staying in Phuket.

Over the last 10 years Phuket has built up an impressive portfolio of leisure, entertainment, dining and commercial venues, so much so, that Phuket has become ‘Hong Kong’s playground’. The islands golf courses are partly responsible for wooing many of these high end buyers. Phuket boasts 5 International golf courses with some of the most scenic and challenging holes in Asia. As the costs of renting property near the sea increases, many villas are now being built inland, located near these gold courses and now developments built along the green pastures of a golf course have become the second most popular choice for lifestyle investors. Other than the attraction of the golf course, other advantages include the seclusion of the property often closer to commercial and entertainment venues.

If You Want to See the World Choose the Hospitality Profession

I realize that nearly the entire planet has been discovered and we cannot turn back the clock and be like Christopher Columbus and find a new continent just like that , but working in the Hospitality Industry you can do your own exploring when it comes time to choosing your place to work. It almost always never turns out as you plan it but the experience helps you grow in so many ways. First it helps you understand how other people live and gives you a sense of accomplishment when overcoming challenges that most people would not be willing to go through. Sort of like Columbus would have gone through when he crossed the ocean back in 1492.

One example for me happened back in 1990. I had just returned from Switzerland having completed my two years there and was eager to return back to Europe any way I could. Finding out about a UK Grandparent Visa which allowed grandchildren of UK descent to work there , I mailed away for a photocopy birth certificate of one of them so I could apply for a visa. It took in all quite a bit of time to obtain the visa so when I flew to London I had only about 600 British pounds on me and three suitcases.

Brimming with confidence I thought I had it all figured out. There was a trade magazine I knew of that was packed with hotel and restaurant jobs. I figured as soon as the jet landed I would find a Bed and Breakfast in London , make a few phone calls and set up some interviews and by week's end have myself a great job. The jet landed early in the morning so when I grabbed my three heavy bags I was really in no mood to shop for the most economical place to stay nor take the Tube. A taxi would do just fine , thank you.

On the tourist board there was a list of Bed and Breakfast establishments around the Paddington station area so I jumped into a taxi and wouldn't you know it but the taxi ride cost me about 40 pounds. The one thing I should have calculated was how expensive the UK was compared to Canada! Almost a tenth of what I had gone in a taxi ride.

I cannot remember off hand what the B and B was per night but it was not Buckingham Palace. A funny thing happened one night when the inn was robbed. Someone had managed to steal and replicate the master key to all the rooms. When the robber was making the rounds he opened up my locked door and woke me up. He excused himself and said he had the wrong room and closed the door. I thought nothing of it and went back to sleep. Next morning I heard the news many rooms were robbed.

The 600 pounds went like that as England was a lot more expensive than I thought it was and the jobs were not as quickly found as I first thought they would be. I ended up working in Ashford Kent at a hotel that was opening to take advantage of the Chunnel that was being built at the time and the business it would bring. It was an exciting opportunity as an Assistant Conference and Banqueting Manager to train a new staff and help during it's launch.

Subsequently I was able to help out in the Dining Room afterwards but the real reward was having gone through something unforgettable. I only spent up to 6 months there as I was completely broke having started at the hotel living off a credit card. But to start with just a destination and not knowing what could really transpire was something that someone who is single , living out of a suitcase , and with a plane ticket could only experience.

I wouldn't recommend it for the faint of heart , or for people who need everything exactly perfect before they start something. But if you are like a Columbus and want to explore new worlds , the Hospitality Industry can provide that opportunity.

The Best Sales Career That Nobody Knows About

"Hotel Sales? What's that?" most people say. If you are looking for a fun, lucrative career with rapid advancement potential, hotel sales is the career for you.

Entry level salaries start at approximately $40 - $60 thousand plus bonus. After only three years many individuals can be earning $60-$85 thousand plus bonus! Many sales managers then move on to Director of Sales positions. The Director of Sales oversees the sales department and typically earns $75-$120 thousand or more plus bonus.

There are hundreds of hotel sales positions currently available. Simply visit www.hcareers.com for available hotel sales positions in your area.

So what exactly does a hotel sales manager do? Simply put, a hotel sales manager sells a hotel's guest rooms, services, and amenities to maximize revenue for the hotel. If you have a professional image, enjoy working with people, and have good common sense, you may be qualified.

The trick to getting a job in hotel sales is experience. Hotels don't have time to train new recruits. That's why online certificate programs are becoming so popular. You can gain critical knowledge and free courses about the field by visiting www.aprinda.com. Aprinda's online certificate programs will prepare you to begin a hotel sales career and hit the ground running from your first day on the job. Programs can be completed in 16-20 hours.

The hotel business is always in need of good sales people that can bring in new business. If you are ready for an exciting career with rapid advancement opportunities you might want to take a look at the hospitality industry. You can learn more about hotel sales careers by visiting www.aprinda.com.

I personally have been in the hotel business for 22 years. I started right out of college as a front desk manager earning $9.00 an hour. I spent that first year at the desk trying to get a job in the sales department, but had no luck. Next, I went to about 18 hotels and submitted my resume. They all told me the same thing, I needed some hotel sales experience. After 4 months of knocking on the same doors, an owner of a hotel gave me a break and started me out as his one and only sales manager for a 124 room hotel. Someone finally gave me a break!. My point is that you don't need to start at a front desk and earn $10 an hour. You can jump into hotel sales and earn 40-60K or more at an entry level sales position.

Give an online course like aprinda.com or ahla.com, or even ecornell.com a try. You will be on your way to a great career in the hospitality business. People that get into hotel sales rarely leave. They say it gets in your blood. It got into mine.
